Amazon Studios has signed a deal with a key creative auspice behind another critically praised comedy series: Mozart In The Jungle‘s executive producer, showrunner and director Paul Weitz. Amazon Studios has signed a two-year first-look deal with Weitz and his brother Chris Weitz’s production company Depth of Field. Under the pact, the duo will develop new projects for the streaming company.
Depth of Field, where the brothers work alongside president Andrew Miano, has produced movies such as Tom Ford’s A Single Man and is currently producing the directorial debut of Judy Greer on Gary Lundy’s A Happening Of Monumental Proportions.
“We’re excited to continue our relationship with Paul and begin working with Depth of Field,” said Joe Lewis, Amazon Studios’ Head of Half Hour Series. “Their focus on humanist stories and their desire to make unique series of remarkable quality fits perfectly here and is a great win for customers.”
Amazon Studios also has an overall deal with Transparent creator, executive producer and showrunner Jill Soloway, which has yielded a comedy pilot, I Love Dick.
Paul Weitz, who will continue on the Golden Globe-winning Mozart In The Jungle, recently directed the praised feature Grandma starring Lily Tomlin. Chris Weitz recently wrote on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story for Disney and rewrote Mountains Between Us for Fox 2000. He is attached to direct the feature Eichmann for MGM.
“Amazon Studios is taking creative risks and it’s an exciting place to work,” said Paul Weitz. “Working on Mozart has been a great experience.”
Depth of Field is repped by WME and Barnes Morris.
