Chris Weitz, Paul Weitz and Andrew Miano are producing via their Depth of Field banner as is David Gardner of Principato-Young.
The film is fully financed by Great Point Media and will shoot in Los Angeles in January 2016. CAA arranged financing and will represent the domestic distribution rights.
The story is set in a small school in Los Angeles that serves as the backdrop for an all-in-one-day tale of sex, lies and dead bodies.
Written by Gary Lundy, the script was a semi-finalist for the Nicholl Fellowship, and was a finalist for the Sundance Writer’s Lab.
Miano said it was Greer who took the directing bull by the horns, bringing the script to Depth of Field’s attention.
“Judy Greer had become an old friend of ours so when she called and she wanted to direct this for us, it was very flattering,” Miano recalled. Greer has appeared in dozens of movies and shows but had only previously directed a short film on transcendental meditation for AOL. “Of course we said yes.”
Depth of Field’s latest production is indie drama Grandma, which is generating awards buzz for its leading lady, Lily Tomlin. And Lundy (repped by CAA, Echo Lake Management and Ziffren Brittenham) is an up-and-coming scribe who sold a comedy pilot to CBS with Nick Weiss and ABC Studios.
Common is currently shooting John Wick 2 in which he plays the main antagonist in the Keanu Reeves action movie and just last week inked a first-look producing deal at HBO. The actor, who appeared in Entourage and Liam Neeson action movie Run All Night, will next be seen in Warner Bros.’ high-profile comic book movie, Suicide Squad, with Will Smith and Jared Leto.
Janney is currently shooting The Girl on the Train, DreamWorks’ adaptation of the Paula Hawkins thriller that stars Emily Blunt. The actress, who also stars in CBS’s Mom with Anna Faris, will next be seen in Tim Burton’s Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.
Greer is filming War for the Planet of the Apes, reprising her role as Cornelia, wife of Caesar, and is coming off a summer that saw her appear in Jurassic World, Ant-Man,Tomorrowland and Entourage.
